Frequently Asked Questions

The interview will cover four topics, including your reasons for not providing abortion services, experiences with patients seeking an abortion, issues around disclosure and professional relationships, and ideas for improvement at practice and national levels.

No. The interview is a safe, welcoming space for you to share your experiences and perspectives. Your thoughts will be heard with respect and openness, and the interviewer will not challenge or debate what you share. 

The research team's views on abortion are not relevant to this research project. The research is seeking to understand the perspectives and experiences of participants, not to promote any particular viewpoint. We have extensive experience conducting qualitative studies on sensitive topics and are committed to rigour, transparency, and respect throughout the process. All team members have signed an author agreement to uphold these principles during this research project. 

No. Your participation is completely confidential. Your name will not be shared in any communications or publications. Whether or not you choose to tell anyone about your involvement is entirely up to you.

Abortion legislation and the legal aspects of abortion services provision in Ireland are out of the scope of this research. The scope of this study is to identify current issues experienced by providers and non-providers in professional settings, and to develop practical resources for healthcare professionals and healthcare managers which support professional wellbeing.

If you take part in the interview, we will contact you again in around 3-4 months to invite your feedback on the findings. You are welcome to contact us and let us know if you would like to receive updates about any publications or presentations from the project.
