The HPAC project aims to understand the factors which lead healthcare professionals to decline participation in abortion services in Ireland, for example, professional interests, training, personal beliefs, and so on. The goal is to create and implement resources that will support the professional wellbeing of both providers and non-providers.
This website provides an overview of the project and explains our ongoing interview study, with the opportunity for healthcare professionals to get involved.
The first phase of the project is an interview study with healthcare professionals who have chosen not to provide or participate in abortion services in Ireland.
The second phase of the project will engage healthcare professionals who provide abortion services to identify strengths and gaps in existing organisational and professional supports.
In its final stage, the HPAC project will integrate the findings of the two phases to develop context-appropriate and operational policy recommendations and practical resources for healthcare professionals and healthcare managers. These resources will support healthcare professionals' in making informed decisions about provision and foster supportive clinical environments, where colleagues or managers may hold differing views on abortion services provision.
The overall goal of HPAC is to support the professional wellbeing of both providers and non-providers of abortion services in Ireland.
The HPAC project is not associated with any specific funding source or funding agency.
